Hello! My name is Haley Syrja-McNally, MSW RSW, and I have been a primarily pediatric registered social worker since 2015. I hold a Bachelor and Master of Social Work. It is a great step forward to look for a therapist if you are having any challenges in life, or if you just need a safe and secure place to talk. Being a child or youth can be really difficult sometimes, especially following the pandemic. Growing up can get even more challenging when someone is experiencing mental health symptoms or difficulties in important relationships and areas of life. While challenges can come in all shapes and sizes, you can learn new tools and skills to help you deal with them.

I have worked for the past 8 years in trauma-informed child and adolescent inpatient and outpatient mental health services in the hospital system. Part of therapy is making a unique plan with each client to address their needs, using skills from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, and Emotionally-Focused Therapy, and I often encourage clients from a somatic (body-based regulation) perspective.

My areas of focus are working with children and youth who are experiencing mental health concerns and/or wellness concerns, including depression, anxieties, mood disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, grief or loss, and caregiver and child relationship issues. I also help to build skills in areas when someone is struggling with school, bullying, body image, gender and sexuality, anger, friends and other relationships. Often, young people need help to process painful memories when they have been through traumas or significant loss. I have specialty in working with 2SLGBTQ* children, youth and families.

I always aim to center reconnecting to joy in therapy and believe that laughter is important to healing. If you are interested in setting up support, it would be great to meet with you. Primarily ages 12+ through adulthood.
